I have recently moved to FL and I need to get some new health insurance, since I am now self-employed. I see a ton of agencies, and websites but I'm not sure where to go. I have heard some horror stories from acquaintances so I am a bit apprehensive. Or should I just go to a company directly?

Call two or three multi-line agencies. Explain what kind of coverage you want, and ask for quotes. I have a relatively inexpensive policy through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida. It’s what used to be known as “major medical” coverage. It doesn’t pay for office visits, but pays for almost everything else – tests, hospitalization, surgery, etc.
Go to a local, independent agent to help you find the right plan for you. You can find one here: http://www.iiaa.org
You can go to a company directly if you feel comfortable that you know enough about health insurance. However i would not recommend that.
I went to an independent agent and i liked it very much, because they provided me with quotes from most of the companies that i was already looking at.
I got lucky and found an agent who treated me great. They did’nt charge me for the quotes or the advice, apparently most independent agents don’t.
You can check out the one i went to at http://www.floridashealthinsurance.com
If you decide to go to them, i hope you get the same service i did.
You can use a free quoting service such as: http://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-3014621-10457629 , https://www.hometownquotes.com/index.cfm?action=affiliatelanding1&affid=5944&camp=insuranceeasyhometown or http://www.jdoqocy.com/click-2977717-10494355 and they will take the information that you provide them and forward it to local agents in your area.
This is a lot easier then calling 20 to 20 agents. You fill out a quotes request for each of these services and they do the rest.
